What you see in driving Howth & Malahide tour app
Welcome to the Howth and Malahide bus tour.
This tour is approximately 7 hours and is designed to travel by bus and let the audio app automatically play at each point of interest.
We recommend that you download the tour onto your mobile phone before you get on the bus, bring headphones to listen to the audio and also bring a USB cable to charge your mobile phone battery during the tour.
During the tour we will take a circular route around Dublin North Bay.
We will start inland, stopping twice to visit the Marine Casino and Malahide Castle.
Arriving at Malahide village we will start to tour the coastal part of the bay, passing through the villages of Portmarnock, Baldoyle and Howth before returning to Dublin.
On the Howth peninsula you will have the opportunity to take the optional walk from the Summit, the highest part of the rock, to the village. This cliff-top coastline is spectacular.
The walk takes 1 hour and 15 minutes.
Be warned that the path is dirt and quite uneven. It is important to wear comfortable shoes and waterproof clothing.
If you are travelling with babies, it is important to take them with you or with a backpack, as the path is not suitable for prams.
Those who do not wish to do the optional walk can walk down to the village with the driver and will have more free time in the village.
In the town of Howth we will have free time for lunch. Typical fare is fish, seafood or the traditional fish and chips. You can eat at the take-away stalls or in the restaurants in the harbour, there are options to suit all budgets.
During your free time you can stroll along the quayside and watch the seals swimming among the boats. Fish shops used to sell bags of fish scraps for people to feed the seals. This became a popular attraction for visitors and so there were many seals waiting to be fed. But since a few years ago, it has been forbidden to sell these fish and now you can see some of them among the boats, waiting for the small fish discarded by the sailors.
Departure from Hotwh to return to Dublin is at 16:00 and the meeting point for the bus is the bus stop opposite the train station.
This tour is also suitable for people who have flights to catch after 15:00 in the afternoon. You can bring your bags in the morning and take a taxi from Howth to the airport, which is only 35 minutes away.
We start the tour at Cathal Brugha Street which is on the corner of the RIU Gresham Hotel on O’Connell street.
